Abstract
Bu araştırma, İranlı kadın sanatçı Shirin Neshat’ın Women of Allah serisinden Rebellious Silence (İsyankar Sessizlik) adlı eserini beden, yazı ve ifade biçimleri üzerinden incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Shirin Neshat, Rebellious Silence (İsyankar Sessizlik) adlı eserinde, hem kadın kimliği ve toplumsal cinsiyet temalarına yönelik yenilikçi bir yaklaşım sunma hem de Batı dünyasında sıkça rastlanan İslam kadını temsillerine karşı alternatif bir bakış açısı geliştirme çabasını ortaya koymaktadır. Rebellious Silence, siyah çarşaf giyen bir kadının elinde tuttuğu tüfeğin, uzun namlusunun oluşturduğu dikeylikle, ortadan ikiye bölünen yüzü üzerinden, toplumsal cinsiyet ve İslam kültüründeki kadın rolüne dair derin bir sorgulama sunmaktadır. Sanatçı yazının bedene entegrasyonu yoluyla toplumsal ve kültürel kimliklerin ifadesini ortaya koyarken, aynı zamanda sanatın bir direniş aracı olarak nasıl işlev gördüğünü de göstermektedir. Neshat, görsel ve metinsel öğeleri birleştirerek, sanatın hem bireysel hem de toplumsal anlam taşıyan güçlü bir ifade biçimi olabileceğini vurgulamaktadır. Çalışma boyunca yapılan analizlerde, Rebellious Silence’ın hem feminist sanat pratiği hem de kültürel eleştiri bağlamında özgün bir duruş sergilediği görülmüştür. Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analiz yöntemi kullanılarak yapılmış olan bu araştırmanın, Şirin Neshat’ın sanatındaki özgün yaklaşımları ve kadın kimliğine dair temsilleri anlamaya yönelik bir katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Abstract
This research aims to examine the work titled Rebellious Silence by Iranian female artist Shirin Neshat from her Women of Allah series through the lens of body, text, and forms of expression. In Rebellious Silence, Shirin Neshat demonstrates both an innovative approach toward themes of female identity and gender while endeavoring to develop an alternative perspective against the representations of Islamic women frequently encountered in the Western world. Rebellious Silence presents a profound interrogation of gender and women's roles in Islamic culture through the image of a woman wearing a black chador whose face is bisected by the vertical line created by the long barrel of the rifle she holds. Through the integration of text into the body, the artist reveals the expression of social and cultural identities while simultaneously demonstrating how art functions as a tool of resistance. By combining visual and textual elements, Neshat emphasizes that art can constitute a powerful form of expression carrying both individual and social meaning. Throughout the analyses conducted in this study, it has been observed that Rebellious Silence exhibits an original stance within both feminist art practice and cultural criticism contexts. This research, conducted using document analysis methodology from qualitative research methods, is expected to contribute to understanding Shirin Neshat's original approaches in her art and her representations concerning female identity.
